Hello from the Montclair Auditorium stage! This is the location of our general music program led by me, Mr. Nasi!
We are STILL busy working on new songs, singing games, and movements to reinforce a physical knowledge of rhythmic and melodic concepts. As many of you may know, this type of instruction strengthens linguistic, mathematic, and social skills. It also helps prepare the student for middle school instrumental and choir programs. Most important, however, is the aesthetic experience that music education uniquely provides the student.
I am happy to report that I completed my Level 1 training in Orff Schulwerk this summer. This type of music education incorporates movement and speech in an experiential process that builds on a child's inherent love of play and spontaneous expression. Musical forms are modeled then replicated by the students, after which they are invited to add their own ideas and elements. This brings higher-order thinking skills into play. As the student creates something and desires to write it down so they remember it, musical notation is introduced. I am currently looking to expand our Orff "instrumentarium", which includes xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, recorders, drums, and various other percussion instruments. THIS SCHOOL NEEDS MORE ORFF INSTRUMENTS WITH STANDS TO MAKE THE EXPERIENCE MORE ENJOYABLE, EDUCATIONAL, AND GOOD-SOUNDING FOR OUR STUDENTS. The sound that can be achieved by even the younger elementary students with this type of ensemble is remarkable. Any donations toward this goal would be greatly appreciated.
We will continue with our Little Kids Rock program of class guitar and keyboards for all grades this year. Here is a picture of a promising group of first grade rockers:
